A Tokyo soda with a South American leaf.

In the clubs of Berlin and Zurich, mate soda is what you drink when the night is long: a little bitter, a little sweet, with a lift that comes from the leaf. In Japan, almost nobody makes it.

Chotto Mate was started by someone who lived in Japan for twelve years and is moving back to Tokyo in 2027. The idea is simple: brew mate in Tokyo, can it in small batches, and bring it to the bars and clubs where people actually go out.

We start with one cocktail: whisky, brown sugar, crushed ice and the can served beside the glass. Once people know the can from a night out, we want it on shop shelves as an everyday soft drink.

ちょっとマテ means “wait a moment”. That is the whole idea: a short break before the next round.
